For generations, kadios has been a familiar part of the most beloved Ilonggo dish – KBL (Kadios, Baboy Langka). Earthy, distinct, and unmistakably local, kadios is now being looked at from a completely different angle.

Scientifically known as Cajanus cajan, kadios, or pigeon pea, has emerged as a promising source of antibiotic properties. Research led by the University of San Agustin (USA), with support from the Department of Science and Technology–Philippine Council for Health Research and Development (DOST-PCHRD), has demonstrated its groundbreaking potential applications in skin health.

This growing research interest in kadios highlights the potential of locally sourced ingredients meeting modern skincare science, and it is a concept that hits close to home for Iloilo. That shift from ulam to skincare is where things get interesting.
